Prison Reforms for skill development and providing employment to the prisoners is very essential to enhance their skills for their post- release life. Introduction and implementation of Public Private Partnership projects have given a new direction to prison reform in the country. In regard to the same, I enquired the Minister of Home Affairs about the achievement made by the implementation of PPP aiming at prison reforms. I also enquired if there are any new proposals of PPP projects for prison reform to be implemented in the near future. The ministry responded with information about PPP projects undertaken in states such as Karnataka, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh which have achieved substantial success for the past few years. Moreover, a non plan scheme of modernisation of prison of Rs. 1800 crore with a cost sharing basis between the central and state government has been recently launched.
