Hike In Vegetable Prices
As the country is facing acute inflation, the rise of vegetable prices in the country is an issue of grave concern. Onion, potato and tomato are amongst the worst affected vegetables facing a sudden price hike of 50% – 75%. Moreover, the price of seasonal vegetables has been no cheaper.
Vegetable price rise is not only upsetting the budget of the middle and lower class families tremendously but has also lead to an acute vegetable crisis in the poorest of the Indian families.
Having identified the problems faced by the people due to price rise of vegetables, I not only raised the issue in the parliament but also requested to know about the main reasons of the price rise and the actions taken by the government to overcome the same. In particular, I raised the issue of hoarding which is one of the biggest reasons of price rise. With the coming of the new transformative annual budget and the strong political will I hope that the prices will soon be stable and reasonable.
